Design Ideas
Magnetic Sliding Door
The first idea we put forward was a sliding glass door that would slide back and forth via a magnetic field. Edwin and Ryan figured that a sliding door would be allow a smooth operation and also allow the door to be controlled via an app, so if the user would like to open a patio door or backyard door / window it could open them to help get airflow through the house.
Conservation Suite
The idea here was to create several different useful tools that the user could use to conserve energy and water and connect to an app that would notify the user of any waste in water or energy. The first item was a pressure sensor that would be placed in the toilet bowl. If the pressure was to drop quickly it would signify a flush. If it was a slow ease on pressure it would signify a leak and would notify the user. The next item was a sensor that would be placed on the refrigerator door, and if door was found to be open it would notify the user. The third item was a timer for the shower, if the user went past a specific time the water flow would decrease slowly to a certain flow rate so water would not be wasted. After the shower was complete the app would notify the user of the length of their shower and how much water was used.
Self Parking Car (Currently working on)
The idea of a self parking car was Edwin's initial idea. He thought it would be a great engineering process to try and have a car self park into a garage. This would allow people to stop their car before going into the garage, get the groceries out of the trunk or side of the vehicle, and the hit a button that would allow it to park itself. This idea expanded into three different parking scenarios: Perpendicular parking (normal and reverse), Parallel parking, and garage parking.
